fmp-3(Sciurus vulgaris)

The big, bushy tail of the red squirrel make it no surprise that its Latin name ‘Sciurus’ comes from the Greek words ‘skia’ (shadow) and ‘oura’ (tail). Vulgaris as in vulgar, or ‘common’, is a nostalgic nod to their presence across the country, which is now under threat due to an increasing decline in their population.
